The Minister for Youth, Sports and Talent in the Buganda Kingdom, Robert Sserwanga Ssaalongo, has officially received the renovated Mumyuka Maanyi Sub-county headquarters following its restoration under the “Youth Beautify Sub-county” initiative.
The programme is spearheaded by the Buganda Youth Council, a non-partisan youth leadership body focused on mobilising young people to participate in community development activities and Buganda Kingdom programmes.
During the same function, youth leaders representing the parishes that make up Mumyuka Maanyi Sub-county were sworn in and officially commissioned by Minister Sserwanga.
Addressing the gathering, Sserwanga encouraged young people to actively participate in Buganda Kingdom programmes, saying they have a key role in shaping the future of the Kingdom.
“I encourage all young people to take an active role in every Kingdom programme because His Majesty the Kabaka entrusted these initiatives to you. Your participation is vital to the development of Buganda,” Robert Sserwanga Ssaalongo said.
The minister also inspected the county playground located at the Mumyuka Maanyi Sub-county headquarters as part of his visit.
Speaking at the event, Reckon Kaggwa Muyanja, the Buganda Youth Treasurer and founder of Rejoice Paints, urged young people to identify their talents early and use their abilities productively.
“Young people should identify their talents and abilities early enough so they can make meaningful contributions while they are still energetic. I also urge Ugandans to support locally made products and businesses because doing so strengthens our economy, improves livelihoods and contributes to Buganda’s development,” Kaggwa said.
The “Youth Beautify Sub-county” initiative has so far been implemented in two sub-counties — Ssaabawaali Gombe in Kyaddondo County and Mumyuka Maanyi in Busujju County.
Organisers say the programme will continue expanding to other areas of the Kingdom as part of efforts to encourage youth participation in community transformation and preserve public facilities.
